Gateway Tutoring Academy was founded by a motivated team of dreamers, skilled in Science, Mathematics, and Languages. All our Academic Mentors hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from leading Canadian institutions such as the University of British Columbia, the University of Toronto, McGill University, and the University of Victoria in their respective areas of expertise. Many of our Academic Mentors are also BC-certified teachers.

We maintain a rigorous hiring process, selecting only the best tutors for our academy. Out of every 25 resumes we receive, only 1–2 candidates are hired. We ensure that our tutors are fluent in English, prioritizing those who completed their high school education in Canada.

Meet The Founders

Ahmed Alhagdow

Vice President and Co-Founder of Gateway Tutoring Academy

Ahmed is the Vice President and Co-Founder of Gateway Tutoring Academy, where he is deeply committed to empowering students from grade 4 to university to reach their full potential. A graduate of the University of Victoria with Distinction, Ahmed was among the top 10% of his class. With the help of academic consultants, he designed the curriculum for the academy, ensuring it meets the diverse needs of each student.

Since founding Gateway Tutoring Academy in 2021, Ahmed has helped over 1000 students in his teaching career. He believes in a holistic approach to education—one that emphasizes not only academic achievement but also the development of critical thinking, problem-solving, and confidence. As Vice President, he leads a team of talented tutors dedicated to delivering personalized instruction tailored to each student’s learning style and goals.

At Gateway, Ahmed fosters a supportive, family-like environment where students feel valued and motivated to succeed. He is passionate about helping students navigate their educational journeys, celebrate their progress, and prepare for the future with the skills and confidence they need to excel.

Mozay Imdakem

Principal and Co-Founder of Gateway Tutoring Academy

Mozay Imdakem is a graduate of the University of British Columbia, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, specializing in International Security and Government Policy. During his studies, he focused on subjects such as security studies, counter-terrorism, and global environmental politics. In addition to his academic achievements, Mozay has extensive experience as an entrepreneur, funding, operating, and managing multiple hospitality ventures. This entrepreneurial background provides him with a strong foundation in business strategy and leadership.

Mozay also served as an Assistant to Management & Regional Security Office at the U.S. Department of State, where he supported diplomatic efforts, conducted research, and assisted with logistical and security planning for high-level visits by U.S. Secretaries to Canada. He is a former NAIA college baseball player at UBC, where he developed leadership and team work skills. Furthermore, Mozay has coached young children in baseball, helping them develop skills while instilling values of teamwork, perseverance, and discipline.

His diverse background in politics, entrepreneurship, sports, and leadership makes Mozay adynamic and well-rounded professional.

Academic Mentor - BC Certified Teacher

Chantel is a BC-certified educator with degrees in Health Sciences and Education from Simon Fraser University. She creates dynamic, engaging classrooms that build student confidence. Outside school, she coaches youth soccer, promoting teamwork, leadership, and personal growth. Chantel is passionate about inspiring young minds, offering students support both academically and personally. Her teaching combines structure and enthusiasm, helping students achieve their goals while enjoying the learning process. With her positive mindset and professional expertise, she makes every learning experience meaningful and motivating.

Academic Mentor - BC Certified Teacher

Tess holds an Honours Bachelor in Arts & Science from McMaster University and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Education at the University of Victoria. She has mentored high school students in S.T.E.A.M. and led project-based learning sessions. Tess volunteered with Sea Smart School, teaching marine biology and conservation. She was also an editor for McMaster’s creative writing magazine. At Gateway Tutoring Academy, Tess specializes in English, Math, and Science for K-10 students. Her teaching emphasizes inquiry, curiosity, and creative problem-solving.

Academic Mentor - Certified TEF and TCF Examiner

Safa specializes in French Language, Civilization, and Literature, helping students deeply understand French language and culture. She has guided many learners through TEF, TCF, and DELF exams (levels A1 to B2) and supports Federal Government employees preparing for SLE evaluations. Safa also works with IB French students, tailoring her lessons to improve speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills. Her structured, personalized approach ensures steady progress. Parents and students trust her ability to meet unique learning needs, promote confidence, and deliver clear, measurable results.

Academic Mentor

Andrea earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of British Columbia and completed advanced coursework in Math and Science. She is fluent in English, Serbian, and French, thanks to a French immersion background, and has seven years of tutoring experience. Andrea works with students in Math, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology, helping them build both confidence and foundational skills. Her calm and encouraging teaching style helps students approach difficult topics without stress, preparing them to succeed in school and beyond.

Academic Mentor

Allison holds an Honours Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Genetics with a minor in Medical Cell Biology from Western University. Originally from Vancouver, she has years of experience mentoring students and a strong background in science and math. Allison combines academic knowledge with teaching and research experience to build confidence in learners. She emphasizes critical thinking and problem-solving in her lessons, making complex concepts accessible. Her supportive, engaging approach empowers students to take ownership of their learning and achieve long-term academic success.

Academic Mentor

Alyssa holds an Honours BA in English, Creative Writing, and French Studies from Western University and is completing a graduate certificate in Publishing at Centennial College. She is a Section Editor for On the Danforth Magazine and previously worked at a Higher Needs Recreation Centre. Alyssa brings strong communication skills and a student-focused teaching style. She encourages creativity, critical thinking, and meaningful analysis in every lesson, helping students engage deeply with material and learn in ways that suit their individual needs and strengths.

Academic Mentor

Jaisreet graduated in Computer Systems Technology with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and is completing a second degree in Statistics and Computer Science. She teaches high school and university students at Gateway Tutoring Academy, focusing on Math and Statistics. Previously, she worked as a Coding and Digital Arts Instructor, teaching programming, design, and animation. Jaisreet’s lessons foster both creativity and academic strength. Her approach is practical, clear, and empowering, helping students reach high grades and develop confidence in technical subjects.
